We built DNI because we need it.

Defining Narratives Institute was created to close the gap between young people and the life they were meant to live. The youth we serve aren’t lost—they’ve been abandoned, criminalized, and overlooked. They’ve been defined by courts, case numbers, school records, and statistics. But we believe they’re more than that. So we created a space that redefines their narrative.

This platform is for the forgotten kids—the ones in detention centers, on probation, expelled from school, labeled “troubled” or “too far gone.” It’s also for the mentors, officers, and community volunteers who refuse to give up on them.

What We Do

Defining Narratives Institute is an online learning and engagement hub built to serve:

  • Youth offenders who are incarcerated, on probation, or at-risk

  • Volunteers being trained to walk with them

  • Officers, mentors, and justice advocates who are part of the solution

All of this is designed to be accessible, on-demand, and location-agnostic—meaning it can be used inside juvenile detention, in schools, at home, or on the block. No matter where a young person is, they can tap into what they need to grow.

Why We Exist

We The Revolt built Defining Narratives Institute because we’re tired of systems talking about change but never creating tools that work on the frontlines. We’ve walked with too many young people who had nobody fighting for their development.

We The Revolt is a social impact organization committed to justice, healing, and civic transformation. Our work spans from advocacy to direct intervention—but we knew we needed a scalable solution. Something that didn’t require kids to be in the right building at the right time. So we built the Institute.

Why It Matters

You can’t expect a kid to change if all you ever gave them was punishment, silence, or survival.
You have to give them something else: a mentor, a mission, a mindset.
That’s what Defining Narratives Institute is here to do.
